Start your Project Management career by transforming the Welsh railways

Start your career by joining our team and learn while you earn. You’ll help lead the delivery of projects in a variety of different areas. This is an apprenticeship which helps you to gain valuable project management experience in a corporate services and facilities environment.

We’ll be investing £5bn in the railways so we think it’s an exciting time for you to join us and make a lasting difference.

Once you’ve completed your first year you’ll have worked towards earning the APM Project Manager qualification and built a fantastic foundation for a successful career in Project Management.

What will I be doing?

This apprenticeship is a role where you’ll be put into the middle of the action. You’ll be providing proactive support across a range of projects.

You’ll also support our facilities management team in providing quality facilities and support services for all Transport for Wales (TfW) employees.

You’ll do this by following project plans and making sure deadlines are met. You’ll provide updates to management and relevant documentation where necessary. You’ll also provide support with reports and presentations where you’ll have the opportunity to share your insights and findings when needed.

Other responsibilities include:

• Communicating with and providing regular updates to our internal and external stakeholders.

• Updating project plans and providing insight to inform business decisions.

• Take ownership of your learning and development through the apprenticeship programme.

What will I gain from this?

This apprenticeship gives you opportunities to develop a wide range of skills in an exciting period of development of the transport network in Wales. You’ll have the chance to be involved in high profile meetings and events, and work with key internal and external stakeholders in our organisation. This is an emerging role where you’ll also have the opportunity to influence key decision makers.

What do I need to be successful?

Project Management isn’t an easy role but brings plenty of rewards. To be eligible for this apprenticeship, we’re not looking for any advanced qualifications, but as a minimum you’ll need the following:

• 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics or equivalent.

• Demonstrate strong interest and a desire for a career in project management.

• Have good numeracy, literacy and communication skills.

• Ability to follow directions and take initiative when required.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, including Excel.

Although it’s not essential, it would be nice to have:

• Welsh Language skills
