Current Welsh Government guidance is to stay at home and travel only if your journey’s essential

Please use public transport if it’s your only option for essential travel and don’t make unnecessary journeys or travel if you have any coronavirus symptoms.

We’re working hard:

  • so key workers can travel to and from work
  • so you can make essential journeys such as for essential shopping or medical needs
  • to keep staff safe

Using taxis or private hire vehicles

Please use taxis and private hire vehicles for essential journeys and if they’re your only option for essential travel.  Your local operators will be able to tell you about the services they’re currently providing and the measures currently in place to help with social distancing.

At taxi ranks
Please try to keep 2 metres apart from others.

Follow the driver’s advice
Please follow the driver’s advice when you’re making your essential journey.  Your driver will be able to tell you about the measures in place to make sure you can travel as safely as possible.  You may be asked to sit in the back left-hand seat if travelling alone, for instance.

Avoid sharing taxis with others not from your household
Please avoid sharing a taxi with others not from your household and wherever possible face away from the driver.  Where this isn’t possible, if you come within 2 metres of others, please:

  • avoid physical contact
  •  try to face away from other people
  • keep the time you spend within 2 metres of other people as short as possible
  • consider wearing a face covering as a precautionary measure

Consider wearing a face covering

You could consider wearing a face covering when making essential journeys. The latest government advice states that you can choose to wear a face covering on public transport if you wish.

You can read the Chief Medical Officer for Wales’ advice on the use of face coverings here.

Wash your hands before and after travelling

Please wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser before and after travelling by taxi or private hire vehicle.
