The Wales and Borders rail service and South Wales Metro

On 4 June 2018 the First Minister of Wales announced a £5 billion investment to fund significant enhancements to rail services in Wales and the borders and the creation of the South Wales Metro.

This is the first time that a rail service has been procured in Wales, for Wales.
We’re revitalising the Wales and Borders rail service to provide our customers with the best possible experience as soon as possible.

We’re investing £40 million to improve our current fleet.  This investment will also fund additional services, customer experience and accessibility improvements.

Read more about how we’re improving our services for our customers on page 40 of our 2018/19 annual report and financial statements.
