Update: Incident due to a broken rail between Chepstow (CPW) and Caldicot (CDT) until the end of the day.

Due to a broken rail between Chepstow (CPW) and Caldicot (CDT):

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Newport (South Wales) (NWP) and Cheltenham Spa (CNM).

We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services is expected until the end of the day.

What's Happened?

We have been made aware of a broken rail between Chepstow and Caldicot.

For safety, train services will not be able to run through the area until it has been fixed.

Our colleagues at Network Rail are aware of the problem; technicians are currently on site at the affected area and have assessed the repair will take several hours.

Services on our Cardiff Central to Cheltenham Spa route are cancelled in both directions. We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services until the end of the day.

Alternative Travel Options:

We have organised buses to run between Newport and Cheltenham Spa to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will arrive at Newport at approximately 21:30 provided by Bluebirds and at Cheltenham Spa at approximately 20:40 provided by Teulu.

The scheduled 23:54 service from Newport to Gloucester will also be replaced by a bus departing on time from Newport provided by Keepings.

These arrangements are in place on services until the end of the day.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Your ticket can be used on the following alternative routes to help you complete your journey, with the Train Operating Companies listed below at no extra cost:

Cardiff Central to Bristol Parkway and Bristol Parkway to Gloucester in both directions with GWR.

Cardiff Central to Cheltenham Spa in both directions with CrossCountry..

These arrangements are in place on services until the end of the day.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Services may be cancelled in both directions between Shrewsbury (SHR) and Birmingham International (BHI).

We expect the incident to last until 23:00 and disruption to services is expected until 23:00 on 10/09/2026.

What's Happened?

We have been made aware of a line side fire on the line between Oakengates and Telford Central.

For safety, train services are unable to run through the area.

Our colleagues at Network Rail are aware and staff are currently en route to the affected area.

We will publish more information here, once we have received an update from Network Rail.
